Another cyber crime of cyberbullying from another social networking sites as in Facebook and Myspace has curtailed a human life. This is another tragic incident that took place after the Federal landmark case of cyber bullying happened in Myspace.
New York Soccer star, Alexis Pilkington, 17, committed suicide Sunday after being harassed and viciously treated with cyber bullying thru nasty messages in one of the social networking sites she joined known as Formspring Me.
Formspring Me, is a new social networking site where most of its members are teenagers, allow its member or anonymous reader to post an idea, comment or opinion that they may wish to express against another member without having the precaution that an offense may happen after posting a malicious message.
Suffolk County Deputy Chief of Detectives Frank Stallone said, "Investigators are monitoring the postings and will take action if any communication is determined to be of a criminal nature".
On the other hand, Alexis' parents said that their daughter was in counseling before she joined Formspring Me, where the several attacks appeared.
Alexis' mother believed that cyberbullying was not the cause of the death of her daughter.
"I believe in my heart that cyberbullying wasn't the cause of Lexi's death," Paula Pilkington, Alexi's mother said. "This is a mistake."
Tom Pilkington, Alexis' father, who serves in the NYPD, said they will cooperate with the police investigation to determine the cause of the death of his daughter.
A Federal Act of Computer Fraud and Abuse has been enforced to apprehend and prosecute violator of this Act however, cyber bullying is at all time high to date.
